Following her sell-out workshop this spring, join artist and knitting designer Dee Hardwicke for a unique two-day Botanical Art & Embroidery Workshop for knitters inspired by the rich, golden-hued palettes of autumn. Dee will be sharing her special techniques for drawing and charting seasonal botanical motifs which you will then Swiss darn onto a knitted scarf, creating beautifully layered embellishments and a truly personal accessory that's perfect for the cooler months ahead. Designed to appeal to knitters and embroiderers alike, this workshop will offer everything from seasonal design inspiration and working with pastels to an opportunity to develop creative embroidery skills.
Dee will show you step by step, how to select and combine colours to create your own botanical motifs in pastels, before guiding you through the process of translating your motifs into Swiss darning embroidery and intarsia charts. On the second day, you’ll discover how to place and Swiss darn your motifs onto a pre-prepared scarf, resulting in a unique and painterly layered effect over the knitted stitches. You will be able to sample yarns from Dee's personal stash, giving you an exciting opportunity to try out different yarns and to enjoy experimenting with new colours and textures when creating your motifs. Dee will be happy to give you details of where to buy these yarns should you wish to use them to complete your project.
You'll be given a set of the motifs created during this workshop, and you'll come away brimming with creative inspiration and armed with new skills to apply to future projects.
This workshop is open to participants aged 18 or over. No drawing skills are required, however, a basic understanding of stocking stitch is essential. As part of the workshop, you’ll receive a copy of Dee’s latest book, Cultivate. You need to pre-prepare a scarf to work with on the second day, a pattern for this will be sent to you with your booking.
