Caroline trained at the Courtauld Institute of Art as an architectural historian, specialising in British architecture of the 16th and 17th centuries. She researched the history of Kensington Palace and has contributed to articles and academic journals. She has lectured extensively on architectural and social history.

Course overview

Engage with the Restoration of 1660, the 17th and early 18th century courts, the people and their portraits. Look at the growth of London after the Great Fire of 1666, and the rebuilding of palaces and country houses. Explore their gardens with Dr Paula Henderson and investigate the furnishings and luxury goods which filled them with Dr Susan Bracken. Study Wren’s churches and public buildings as they transformed the architecture of the capital post-Fire. Discover the evolution of portraiture from Baroque display to the conversation piece.
