Join us for a two and a half hour introduction to contemporary hand weaving with weaver Dalia James.  This tapestry frame weaving workshop will give each participant a fundamental grounding in tapestry weaving techniques.  During the workshop, participants will learn techniques such as plain weave, dovetailing, hatching, Rya knotting and free weaving and learn about the process of dyeing yarns with natural dyes such as indigo and madder.

Dalia will be doing a 'Takeover' in The Shed at Young V&A from mid July-August, where she will be working on a special project dying yarns with natural dyes.  Please look out for 'Meet the Designer' events to meet her in person and see her weaving studio in 'The Shed'.

Dalia James is a London based artist and designer.  She graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Woven Textiles (BA Hons).  As a handweaver, the connection between her and the cloth she creates is essential to her practice.  Dalia’s work focuses on colour and geometry and explores the relationship between the two.   Her artistic philosophy has been shaped by the writings of William Morris and Josef Albers and her work often references early 20th Century design and artistic movements.
